Lisa Figueroa

Tyrrell Clarke

When Lisa first laid eyes on the Shuswap, through the windows of a VIA train she knew instantly that her heart had found its home. Once settled in Sicamous, she put years of classical animation, commercial art, and life drawing training to work in her new studio. Lisa’s art is characterized by her penchant for storytelling; her artistic engine is revved up by the beauty of the neutral world. Since 2009 Lisa has been painting the sockeye salmon that return to the Shuswap to spawn in the river where they were born. The epic two week journey from the Pacific Ocean to the Adams River where they spawn and die; this part of their life journey is where Lisa witnesses and paints. Lisa Figueroa creates at the Salmon Arm Arts Centre where she is artist in residence and operates the Lisa Figueroa Studio/Gallery.
