Tony Grove

Tony Grove specializes in wooden boat construction and restoration. After completing a four-year boat building apprenticeship that started in 1980, Tony’s boat building experiences led him to one day become head instructor at the Silva Bay Shipyard School on Gabriola Island, teaching traditional boat building and ships cabinetry. Today Tony works for himself as an artist, writer, teacher, woodworker, and boatbuilder at his home shop and studio tucked amongst the trees on Gabriola Island, British Columbia.

His love for painting and his appreciation of the beautiful lines of boats are evident in his art, where he explores classic hull shapes with a playful use of light and colour.

Kelly Corbett

Kelly Corbett, Nanoose Bay artist, expresses her great passion for the outdoors in stunning wilderness scenes of beautiful British Columbia.

Holding diplomas in both Fine Art (UFV) and Photography Academy, Kelly combines academic training with her natural talent, painting with acrylics.

Kelly’s style invites you to take a step outside; a trip through the forest; or an outing by kayak to commune with the natural world.

As an avid outdoorswoman, Kelly draws inspiration from her hiking, kayaking, and camping trips throughout BC. She captures the unique features of stunning wilderness scenes with her camera and uses the images taken as the muse for her paintings.

For the outdoorsy, Kelly’s painting style invites you to recall your adventures and relive the sights and scents of BC’s natural environment. And for those people that may not have the opportunity to get to remote wilderness locations, these paintings offer a glimpse into a world that is inviting and ready for you.

Kelly takes pride in completing paintings that look realistic and offers to all people the chance to see and experience the beauty that is British Columbia.

and Friends of Bowker Creek

Growing up in Sooke, BC, our family spent a lot of time fishing and rarely came back empty handed. Back in the day, salmon, crab and prawns were very plentiful. As a large family, our parents relied on fishing and hunting to feed the family. Nothing was wasted, leftovers were made into pies, croquettes, soups and stews. Today I cringe when I think that I once said “salmon for dinner again!” As a young child, it never crossed my mind that the salmon and all the animals that rely on them, might be gone. Times have changed but it is not too late to make a difference.

We have invited a group local artists to participate by exhibiting their work, that was inspired by the salmon run to remind us of the beauty and importance of our fragile natural world.

As new gallery owners, Kevin and I are very pleased to support the Friends of Bowker Creek in their efforts to restore the Bowker Creek watershed. We hope to bring awareness through art and by fundraising for this worthy cause. A portion of the sales on the opening weekend will be donated to the Friends of Bowker Creek and we will be hosting fundraising efforts throughout the exhibit.

Please join us.

Tyrrell Clarke is a contemporary painter who lives on Gabriola Island, one of the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia in British Columbia, Canada. She has been painting and exhibiting for over 30 years. Tyrrell received her BFA from The University of Calgary in 1985.

Tyrrell is well known for her signature style and her large canvases with rich colours and abstract forms. She is inspired by the lush and beautiful surroundings of the West Coast. Tyrrell explores the feelings of being part of the nature through her paintings of the seductive forests and flowers that are all around her.

In her new paintings, the viewer is drawn into the work through the vivid jewel tones and the depiction of transparent bodies of women serenely in flower beds. Trees beckoning for walks through the rolling forests and exaggerated flowers that are animated with personality give her paintings an otherworldly presence.

Tyrrell is represented in galleries in British Columbia and Alberta and her work is found in private collections both locally and internationally. She works in a beautiful studio on Gabriola Island where she welcomes visitors from all over.
